Roll Forming Coil Loading Trial Record: What Buyers Should Keep

By Halcyon Machinery · Published

A coil-loading trial record ties the proposed uncoiler to identified coil stock, a visible payoff path and measured first-off parts. It lets a buyer distinguish a fitted coil from a tested production sequence.

Xiamen workshop photograph of a narrow steel coil on a mandrel, with strip paying off. It is an equipment reference, not the offered model, a capacity plate, a customer case or evidence that a coil-loading trial passed.

Direct buyer answer

Keep one record that joins the coil ID, actual dimensions and weight, loading method, mandrel and restraint configuration, payoff direction, line setup, and identified first-off part. Ask our factory team to demonstrate the exact proposed equipment with representative material. A photo of a coil sitting on a mandrel cannot establish load rating, safe handling or stable production. The approved drawing and a supplier-specific procedure control the acceptance decision.

Why a catalogue uncoiler specification is not the trial record

A quoted maximum coil mass is one boundary, not a description of the buyer's coil. Record the coil inner diameter (ID), outer diameter (OD), width, mass, steel grade and thickness range for each representative batch. Compare them with the offered mandrel, back plate, hold-down and loading equipment as actually supplied. Samco Machinery describes adjustable mandrels and different back-plate and brake options; the options on another manufacturer's page are not automatically included in a Halcyon quotation. Metform explains that controlled coil payoff matters to strip feeding. Our factory team must document the actual proposed arrangement.

A practical sequence for a buyer witness

  1. Send the revision-controlled profile drawing, steel grade and thickness range, coating, coil ID/OD/width/mass and the planned loading method.
  2. Provide the punching layout and target output, including what run length and changeovers you want witnessed. These inputs prevent a successful feed of an unrelated sample being counted as acceptance.
  3. Before loading, ask our factory team to identify the offered uncoiler, capacity evidence, mandrel and hold-down arrangement, loading route, and the person responsible for the site procedure. Do not infer safe lifting points from this photograph.
  4. Record the actual coil and orientation, then document controlled payout into the entry section. Compare the first-off part and later samples with the approved drawing using agreed datums.
  5. Mark each unresolved discrepancy, record the corrective action and repeat only the affected part of the trial. A blank field is not a pass.

Buyer questions

Is the coil-loading trial the same as proving machine output?

No. It checks the supplied coil and front-end arrangement. Target output requires an agreed run and measured finished parts under stated material and setup conditions.

Can I accept the uncoiler from a published capacity figure?

No. Ask for the offered unit's drawing or rating and compare the actual coil mass, ID, OD, width, loading route and interface. A catalogue range for a different model is only a selection prompt.

Should one coil represent every profile and material?

Only if its differences are immaterial to the agreed purchase scope. Identify the distinct material, width or orientation cases in the contract documents and define representative trials with our factory team.
