Direct buyer answer

Approve the elbow from the actual pipe and fitting drawings, not a nominal size list. Provide the cross-section, steel grade, coating, thickness range, intended bend or offset geometry, joining method, cut lengths and target output. Ask our factory team for labeled trial elbows and straight pipe samples that can be fitted together and checked against the agreed drawings.

Production-base reference: HDE-91 for D91 round pipe

Our Xiamen production base publishes a hydraulic HDE-91 reference unit for D91 round downspouts made from 0.4–0.7 mm steel or aluminium. Its stated operations are 90° and 135° bending, S-shape fitting formation and pipe-end swaging. The main downspout line completes the seam before pipe reaches this separate elbow unit. Those figures describe our Xiamen production base's named catalogue model, not every machine or a guaranteed configuration for your project. Confirm the exact pipe diameter, material, seam, tooling, angle schedule and included stations in the signed proposal and witnessed sample trial.

For an existing rainwater line, compare a labeled straight-pipe sample from that line with the proposed elbow and swaged end before ordering. The main-line compatibility guide gives the handoff and inspection sequence.

Round or rectangular downspout: which machine scope should you request?

Start with the straight-pipe section. The HDE-91 reference above is for a D91 round pipe. A rectangular 2 × 3 in or 3 × 4 in downspout has a different section, seam and mating elbow; the round D91 model is not evidence that it can make either rectangular size. If your project uses a rectangular or other non-round pipe, send the straight-pipe and elbow drawings together. Ask for a separately identified machine and tooling proposal, then check a labeled elbow against a straight-pipe sample from the proposed production route. We have not verified a rectangular elbow configuration on this page.

For the U.S. market: give the actual internal and external dimensions, metal and coating, seam position, swaged end and required bend direction rather than relying on a nominal 2 × 3 or 3 × 4 label. Confirm which station makes the straight pipe and which forms the elbow, and whether the quotation covers both.

Why the mating joint matters

Round, square and other downspout profiles can use different seams and connection details. The finished elbow must mate with the intended straight pipe without relying on a forced fit, and the formed section should be reviewed for visible coating damage, deformation and sharp edges. The project drainage design determines the number and placement of fittings; no universal number of elbows or bend angle is implied here.

What to record at acceptance

  • Identify the approved pipe and elbow drawings, material batch and setup used for each sample.
  • Measure the critical geometry and check actual elbow-to-pipe fit in the specified assembly direction.
  • Record angle or offset, joint overlap, edge condition and visible surface condition according to the agreed inspection method.
  • Keep first-off and later samples with adjustment notes so a good single piece is not mistaken for repeatability.

Questions buyers ask

Are 45- and 90-degree elbows standard for every machine?

No. Available geometry and tooling must be confirmed for the approved profile and proposed machine.

Does the D91 round reference also make 2 × 3 or 3 × 4 rectangular elbows?

That has not been established. Request a separately named rectangular machine/tooling scope and a trial elbow that mates with your approved straight-pipe sample.

Can one elbow machine make every pipe size?

No universal range can be assumed. Ask for a configuration and trial that covers the exact drawing and material range required.

What should I send for a comparable quotation?

Send profile drawings for the straight pipe and fittings, steel grade and coating, thickness range, bend/offset geometry, joining method, punching layout if any, cut lengths and target output.

See the gutter equipment page for the related rainwater product family, then send both pipe and fitting drawings.
